Boss Lady...Pamela Laird, Moxi Loves
For the next few weeks I am going to be running a series on the blog all about other women in business aka Boss Ladies...these women are all total inspirations and hopefully some of you might be inspired to follow your own dreams after reading this.
First up is the fabulous Pamela Laird, creator of Moxi Loves..
Tell me about yourself and your business?
Since I left school in 2008 I have been working in the beauty industry, and actually long before that in my mums salon! She opened her doors in Terenure in 1995 so you could say it is in the family! I have worked here ever since and that is where my interest in products started. We used to be the irish distributors for some skincare and nail brands and that part of the business fascinated me. I loved everything about the product side. I started working on Moxi loves about 2 years ago. The ideas were spilling out of my head and the hard part was to decide what product should be our first. EYE CATCHER was of course the first from the brand and was very quickly a huge success. We launched into Penneys stores November last year. They have been a huge support and I think its great that they love to stock Irish brands in-store.
What is your favorite quote?
“What’s meant for you won’t pass you by” this is always true, and there will always be a better opportunity down the line.
What do you think is your greatest weakness?
I am extremely impatient. In business I had to learn that not everyone replies to your emails as soon as they read them, it took a while to get used to that! It also affects me when Im speaking to people and my mum always says you’ll learn twice as much talking to someone if you just listen and don’t speak- its great advice!
If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting out in business what would that be?
The best advice is just to go for it! If I had thought about everything that could go wrong beforehand I may not have been brave enough. I just had the thought that of course it will sell and of course people will want it, it actually never occurred to me in the early days that I could be left with 60,000 units of stock if no one wanted to buy it!
What motivates you?
Deadlines! I work well under pressure so the less time I have to complete a task the more productive I am. I like to be busy and I think my mind works best and I feel the most motivated to succeed against the odds!
What product do you buy time and time again?
Nip and Fab Glycolic pads are the lazy girls dream! I use them every night.
What is your favourite piece of clothing?
Any pair of Pyjamas!
What do you do to relax?
If I really want to wind down I will do some online shopping. I find it really relaxing and always cheers me up if I have had a stressful day. I normally log onto HM and browse I could probably spend all day every day just shopping
How would you describe your personal style?
This is tough because I am either so casual that I look scruffy or I am full on glam! I find the in-between really hard to master! But I always try to carry a nice bag no matter how badly I am dressed!
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I would go back to the Caribbean again. I fell in love with the Dominican Republic it is just pure paradise. Plus the time difference gives me some proper down time from emails :)
I really hope you all enjoyed reading this blog post and like Pamela said if you are thinking about starting up a business, just go for it! :)
